What is SSC CGL?
SSC CGL is a national-level exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to shortlist candidates for Group-B and -C posts in various ministries/departments/organisations of the Government of India. Every year, about 30 lakh candidates fill the SSC CGL application form and about 15 lakh aspirants appear for the exam. SSC CGL notification 2020-21 is scheduled to release on December 29, 2020.
The Staff Selection Commission conducts the exam in four stages called tiers. The first two tiers of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam are conducted in online mode. The next two tiers of the exam are held in offline mode. Check SSC CGL exam pattern.
With the approval of the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) by the Union Cabinet, NRA CET 2020-21 (NRA Common Eligibility Test 2020-21) will be conducted by the agency to replace the tier-I papers of SSC, IBPS and RRB exams. However, the exact details on when the first ever NRA CET will be conducted are yet to be out. SSC CGL Eligibility 2020
SSC CGL 2020 eligibility criteria vary as per the post applied by the candidate. However, given below is the basic criteria that candidates need to fulfill in order to meet SSC CGL eligibility:
- Nationality/citizenship: A candidate must be either a citizen of India, a person of India origin, subject of Nepal/Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee
- Age limit: A candidate should be between 18 and 32 years in age
- Educational qualification: A candidate should complete bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or institute

SSC CGL 2020-21 Notification & Application Form
SSC CGL 2020-21 notification will be released by Staff Selection Commission on December 29. Along with the notification, the Commission will also release SSC CGL application form 2020-21. Candidates will be able to fill the SSC CGL application form latest by January 25. The SSC CGL tier-I 2021 exam will be conducted from May 29-June 7.
How to Fill SSC CGL Application Form 2020-21?
Candidates can fill SSC CGL 2020-21 application form on the official website of the Commission in two parts – registration and application. Candidates follow the quick steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit the official website of SSC – ssc.nic.in.
Step 2: Click on the ‘New User? Register Now ‘link.
Step 3: Fill the SSC CGL registration form.
Step 4: Login to the registered account using registration number (generated at the time of registration) and password (set at the time of registration).
Step 5: Fill all details asked in the SSC CGL application form.
Step 6: Upload scanned images of photo and signature and other important documents, if applicable.
Step 7: Review the SSC online form carefully and click on the Final Submit button.
Step 8: Pay SSC CGL application fee of Rs 100 in online or offline mode.

SSC CGL Application Fee
Candidates can pay SSC CGL application fee of Rs 100 in online or offline mode via SBI challan/BHIM UPI/internet banking/credit card/debit card. However, it may be noted that all females and candidates belonging to reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD) and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) are exempted from the application fee payment.
SSC CGL Vacancies 2020
SSC CGL vacancy list is released by Staff Selection Commission every year. SSC CGL vacancies 2020-21 have not been released by the commission yet. However, for SSC CGL 2019-20, total 9,488 vacancies have been released. Out of these, 8,582 vacancies are for the major 34 Group-B and -C posts.

Quantitative Aptitude Syllabus
Quantitative Aptitude questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and relationships between numbers, Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time & Work,Percentage. General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus
General Intelligence and Reasoning includes questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

General Awareness Syllabus
Questions in this section will be aimed at testing the candidates’ general awareness (GK+GS) of the environment around him and its application to society. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research. The questions will also be asked from Science, Current Affairs, Books and Authors, Sports, Important Schemes, Important Days, Portfolios,People in News etc.

SSC CGL Syllabus 2020: Tier II

Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on spot the error, fill in 21 the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/ detecting misspelled words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active/ passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct/ indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, cloze passage & comprehension passage.
Paper-III (Statistics) Syllabus:
1. Collection, Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data – Primary and Secondary data, Methods of data collection; Tabulation of data; Graphs and charts; Frequency distributions; Diagrammatic presentation of frequency distributions.
2. Measures of Central Tendency – Common measures of central tendency – mean median and mode; Partition values- quartiles, deciles, percentiles.
3. Measures of Dispersion- Common measures dispersion – range, quartile deviations, mean deviation and standard deviation; Measures of relative dispersion.

SSC CGL Tier-III Syllabus
Tier-III of SSC CGL 2020 exam is a descriptive exam to test the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. The mode of examination is offline (Pen and Paper mode) and students are required to write essays, précis, application, letter etc. in this exam. The exam carries 100 marks and the time allotted for the same is 60 minutes. The time allotted for candidates belonging to PWD category is increased to 80 minutes. Tier-III paper is given by specific candidates who are interested only for the post of “Statistical Investigator Grade II” & “Compiler”.

SSC CGL Tier-IV Syllabus (Skill Test)
Tier-IV examination comprises of couple of skill sets required for certain Government Posts all over the country.
DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): For the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax),DEST Exam through SSC CGL 2020 exam is conducted to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given an article in English which they have to type on Computer. A candidate is required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes.
CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): Word Processing, Spread Sheets and Generation of slides are the three modules that are important for this exam and the commission demands a candidate to be proficient in it for the post of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner).
SSC CGL Syllabus: Important Points
Tier-I exam is compulsory for all posts mentioned in the SSC CGL 2020 Notification. Candidates will have to prepare for both Tier 2 and Tier 3 exam simultaneously. However, the evaluation of Tier 3 Descriptive exam will be done only if a candidate clears the combined cut off for Tier 1 and Tier 2. So, candidates may appear for both Tier 2 and Tier 3 exams but your Tier 3 answer sheets will be evaluated only if you clear the cut-off. Tier-IV exam is taken by candidates applying specifically for TA, CSS, MEA and Inspector.
Tier-I and Tier-II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions only. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Comprehension in Tier-I and Paper-II in Tier-II.
In Tier-II, Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the posts.
Penalty for wrong answers
Giving a wrong answer to a question will lead to deduction of 0.5 marks in Tier – I exam.
In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.
