- Indian Armed Forces are divided into three services Army, Navy and Airforce. The three services function under their respective Chiefs of Staff. These three chiefs of staff constitute the Chief of Staff Committee. The Chairmanship of this committee rotates among the service chiefs according to seniority.
- India has the second largest army (China), the third largest air force (USA, Russia) and the seventh largest navy (USA, Russia, China, Japan, UK, France) in the world.

Army: The Chief is ‘Chief of the Army Staff’. Its headquarters is in New Delhi. The Army has seven commands.

- Central Command – Lucknow
- Training Command – Shimla
- South West Command – Jaipur
Each command of Indian Army is commanded by a General Officer Commanding in Chief of the rank of Lieutenant General.

Navy: The chief is an Admiral ranked ‘Chief of the Naval Staff’. The headquarters is in New Delhi. The Navy has three Naval Commands, commanded by Flag officers Commanding-in-Chief of the rank of Vice-Admiral. They are:

S-400 Missile System
The S-400 Triumf (Russian for Triumph) Missile System is an anti-aircraft missile defense system developed by Russia’s Almaz Central Design Bureau. It’s been in use by the Russian Armed Forces as well as other international operators since 2007.
The S-400 Missile System comes with an integrated multifunction radar with autonomous detection and targeting systems. It also consists of anti-air missiles launchers and command and control missiles.
The system is also capable of exchanging data with other defence systems such as SA-12, SA-23, and S-300.
On 15 October 2016, during the BRICS Summit, India and Russia signed an Inter-governmental Agreement (IGA) for the supply of five S-400 regiments. The US$5.43 billion deal (₹40,000 crore) was formally signed on 5 October 2018, ignoring the threat of US sanctions.

Apache Helicopter
AH-64E Apache Attack Helicopter
- Better known as an attack helicopter are received from the Boeing production facility in Mesa, Arizona, USA.
- Apache will replace Russian origin MI-35helicopters that are on the verge of retirement.
- These are all-weather capable, easily maintainable and have high agility and survivability against battle damage.
- The capabilities of the AH-64E Apache Attack Helicopter includes:
It can carry out precision attacks at standoff ranges and operate in hostile airspace with threats from the ground.
It can transmit and receive battlefield picture through data up linking and networking.
It can also shoot fire and forget anti-tank guided missiles, air to air missiles, rockets while providing versatility to helicopter in network-centric aerial warfare.
It also carries fire control radar, which has a 360° coverage and nose-mounted sensor suite for target acquisition and night vision systems.

BRAHMOS
BRAHMOS is a universal long range supersonic cruise missile system that can be launched from land, sea and air. BRAHMOS has been jointly developed by DRDO, India, and NPOM, Russia. The system has been designed with two variants for Anti-Ship and Land-Attack roles. BRAHMOS Weapon Systems has been inducted and is operational with the Indian Navy (IN) as well as the Indian Army (IA).
- The BrahMos missile, an Indo-Russian joint venture, has a range of 290 km and is the fastest cruise missile in the world with a top speed of Mach 2.8 (nearly three times the speed of sound).
- BrahMos is named for the rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva.
- It is a two-stage (solid propellant engine in the first stage and liquid ramjet in second) missile.
- It is a multiplatform missile i.e., it can be launched from land, air, and sea and multi capability missile with pinpoint accuracy that works in both day and night irrespective of the weather conditions.
- It operates on the “Fire and Forgets” principle. it does not require further guidance after launch.

NAG Missile
The NAG missile has been developed to strike and neutralise highly-fortified enemy tanks. It also has night strike capabilities.
- It has a minimum range of 500 metre and maximum range of 4 km.
SPIKE Missile
These are the 4th generation Anti-Tank Missiles developed and manufactured by the Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, Israel.
- It is a portable anti-armour weapon system with a range of up to 4 km, which can be operated in fire-and-forget mode and in the fire, observe and update mode using the fiber-optic data link.

ARJUNA Tank
The Arjun is a main battle tank (MBT) of the third generation, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the India Army. It is named after Arjuna, the main protagonist of the Mahabharata.
It entered into service in 2004. Following the formation of the 43rd Armoured Regiment in 2009, it became the first regiment to receive the Arjun.
